Sports Centre Re-Opening

The sports centre will re-open on Monday 7 September.

Our initial opening times will be as follows:

Monday-Thursday 18:00-22:15
Friday 18:00-21:15
Sunday 16:00-20:00

Initially, the following facilities will be open:

Sports Hall

3G Pitch
Astro Pitch
Grass Pitches and other outdoor facilities

We hope to increase the number of facilities available and our opening times in the coming weeks.

In order to make our centre COVID-secure there will be a number of extra safety measures in place. Please follow the rules to help us make this possible.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

We’ll be putting the following measures in place to keep Wotton Community Sports Centre COVID-secure. Please read before visiting the centre.

Please don’t visit the centre if you have any of the following symptoms:

A. A persistent cough
B. A high temperature
C. A loss of taste or smell

  • Wash your hands and make use of the hand sanitiser available.
  • Each booking must nominate a lead to take details for Test and Trace purposes.
  • Please keep your distance and stay two-metres away from our staff and other customers.
  • ‍‍Please do not congregate in the main corridor or changing rooms. Waiting and meetings must take place outside, away from other users and staff.
  • Showers and changing rooms are out of bounds. Toilets will still be available.
  • Contact points, doors and equipment will be sanitised on a regular basis.
  • Contactless payment will be available.

Fitness Suite Re-Opening

How will it work?

 

There will be three sessions an evening with a maximum of five users at any one time. These will be the following:

18:00-18:40
19:00-19:40
20:00-20:40

  • After each session there will be a 20-minute cleaning period where staff will disinfect each piece of equipment and any touch points around the room.
  • Only current and former members will be allowed to attend at first.
  • ️‍Sanitising wipes will be available and should be used every time you’ve finished with a piece of equipment.
  • Social distancing measures will be in place and some machines will be taken out of service to allow for this.
  • ️‍Extra ventilation will be added by opening doors.

Section 1. COVID-19 Risk Assessment

 

 

 

Coronavirus (COVID-19) risk assessment for return to operation of Wotton Sports Centre from 7 September 2020

 

Hazard

 

Persons at risk

 

Control Measures

 

Hazard 1

Exposure from others due to:

1.     Living with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19

2.     Having come into close contact (within two meters for 15 minutes or more) with a confirmed case of COVID-19

3.     Being advised by a public health agency that contact with a diagnosed case has occurred

Customers and Staff 1.     Only members of the public with a booking will be allowed on site

2.     Spectators are not allowed with the exception of parents/guardians of children

3.     Staff will be provided with PPE

4.     Staff on duty at the front desk will be protected with a plastic screen at the point of interaction with customers

5.     Sport Wotton will maintain contact records of non-club users (e.g. fitness suite, badminton) to support NHS Test and Trace scheme

6.     Sports clubs will be responsible for maintaining contact records for all of their players, coaches, spectators and volunteers. This will be a strict term of booking. Sport Wotton will co-ordinate with a club’s COVID-19 officer if a case occurs.

7.     Staff with symptoms of COVID-19 (loss of taste and smell, persistent cough and/or a high temperature) should not be allowed to work until they have recorded a negative test.

8.     Customers with symptoms of COVID-19 should not be permitted to use the sports centre.

 

Hazard 2

Working with others in close proximity in office and around the site

Staff 1.     Staff will mostly be working alone

2.     When another member of staff is on-site, they should maintain a two metre social distance wherever possible

3.     Hand sanitizer will be provided in the office as well as a sink with soap for hand washing

4.     Staff will be provided with PPE

5.     Cleaning materials will be provided to clean touching points in the office and front desk. This includes; keyboards, surfaces, door handles, phone, kettle.

6.     Signage in the office to remind staff of these control measures

7.     Only one computer on the front desk should be used at a time in order for staff to keep social distance

 

Hazard 3

Exposure from access/egress to site/ movement around site

Customers and Staff 1.     Indoor facility users will be told to wait outside until their booking commences. Sports hall users will not be allowed into the building until the previous users have left the building.

2.     Signage will be put up to remind users to socially distance in all areas

3.     Indoors bookings will be reduced from 55 minutes to 50 minutes in order to allow a 10-minute changeover period and to avoid large groups crossing in the corridor.

4.     Artificial pitch users will be reminded to socially distance on pathways and when entering and exiting the pitches. Pitch users should manage their players to prevent crowding and pinch points as much as is reasonably possible.

 

Hazard 4

Use of potentially contaminated room/area/equipment

 

Customers and Staff 1.     Staff will carry out a list of cleaning duties at regular intervals detailing key touch points in the sports hall building including at the start and end of each shift

2.     Door handles will be sanitized regularly

3.     Hire equipment will be sanitised after each use

4.     Sports equipment (badminton nets, goals, netball posts) will be sanitized after each booking

5.     Clothing will not be loaned out (e.g. bibs)

6.     Contactless payment will be encouraged wherever possible

7.     Staff will be provided with PPE

8.     Fitness Suite will have its own strict cleaning regime (See: Activity 1)

9.     Changing rooms and showers will not be available for use

10.   Touch points in toilets will be cleaned regularly and sanitising facilities provided

11.   Clubs using outdoor pitches should sanitise communal equipment (e.g. goalposts) and seating at the end of each session

12.   Sign-in sheet for Fitness Suite has been removed and will be filled in by member of staff instead in order to prevent cross-contamination.

13.   A box with sanitising equipment will be kept at the sports centre for use on pitches. First user will collect at the start of the night and last user will return at the end of the evening. Waste will be secured in yellow bag for sports centre staff to dispose of.

 

Hazard 5

Exposure from the playing of sport/taking part in exercise activities

Customers 1.     Indoor contact sports will be prohibited (e.g. 5-a-side football)

2.     Full contact martial arts will be prohibited (e.g. taekwon-do)

3.     The Fitness Suite will be limited to five users at one time who must have booked in advance. Exercise stations will be cordoned off in order that users can maintain social distance.

4.     The dance studio, squash court and gymnasium will not be available for use

5.     All sports will be restricted by the current COVID guidelines of their National Governing Body. This may mean modified versions of sport with new rules and regulations. (See: Sport/Activity Specific Hazards and Control Measures)

6.     All clubs must adhere to the current COVID guidelines of their sport even if they are not affiliated with the National Governing Body. This a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

7.     The fitness suite and sports hall will be kept well ventilated when in use. This will be achieved by opening fire exit doors and using extractor fan systems in order to provide a constant supply of fresh air.

8.     All clubs will be required to submit a COVID risk assessment and must have a COVID officer

 

Hazard 6

Exposure from large numbers of persons in one area

Customers and Staff 1.     Customers will be prohibited from congregating before or after their activity, particularly in the sports hall corridor and changing rooms. This will be monitored by staff and groups dispersed if necessary.

2.     Any necessary gatherings or meetings for sports clubs should be held outside and away from other users or staff

3.     Changeover times between activities will be managed carefully and users arriving on site held outside the sports hall door until instructed by staff to enter

4.     The capacity of the sports hall will be limited to 30 adults which allows 200sqft per person. (Government guidance is minimum of 100sqft)

5.     The capacity of the fitness suite will be five adults

 

Hazard 7

Poor hygiene

Customers and Staff 1.     All users and staff will be reminded to wash hands thoroughly and regularly

2.     Regular cleaning of hand washing facilities and checks of soap and sanitiser levels will take place

3.     Provision of suitable and sufficient rubbish bins for hand towels and regular removal and disposal

4.     Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance to the building and customers encouraged to use it

 

Hazard 8

First aid provision

Customers and Staff 1.     First aid provision will be maintained at the sports centre at all times and all staff have current and valid first aid certificates

2.     Staff should initially check with injured person whether or not they can self-administer first aid

3.     Staff will be provided with PPE for use when providing first aid including mask, gloves and sanitising solutions

4.     Clean-up and sanitisation of immediate area after first aid has been provided

 

Hazard 9

Cleaning

Staff and Customers 1.     When cleaning, staff will wear gloves, ventilate the room and dispose of all waste safely

2.     Staff will be reminded to wash hands thoroughly after undertaking cleaning protocols

3.     Cleaning staff from Katharine Lady Berkeley’s school will be cleaning all school facilities every evening prior to opening for community use

 

Hazard 10

Customers unaware of control measures

Customers and Staff 1.     Full details of control measures will be emailed to all major bookers in advance of opening the sports centre and again when necessary

2.     Control measures will be explained via social media channels in advance of opening

3.     Control measures will be available to view on www.sportwotton.co.uk

4.     Signage in the sports hall to make customers aware

5.     The COVID-19 officer at each club will be responsible for clearly communicating all relevant guidance to its players, coaches and volunteers

 

Hazard 11

Non-compliance of control measures

Customers and Staff 1.     Compliance of control measures will be added to the Sport Wotton terms of booking and distributed amongst all customers

2.     All customers must agree to new terms of booking before a booking is confirmed

3.     Customers in breach of COVID-19 control measures will be asked to leave and their bookings will be cancelled

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Section 2: Sport/Activity Specific Hazards and Control Measures

Indoor football

Sport England Indoor football will not be allowed in accordance with current guidance
Activity 3

Outdoor football

Football Association 1.     Competitive training can take place for all participants, in an outdoor setting provided this take place in groups of no more than 30 (including coaches).

2.     In all settings before and after the session, and in any breaks, all participants should practice social distancing in line with Government guidance.

3.     Participants should self-assess for COVID symptoms

4.     Unnecessary touching should be avoided (e.g. handshakes, huddles, celebrations)

5.     Sharing of equipment should be avoided

6.     Touching of equipment should be avoided (e.g. goalposts)

7.     All clubs must have a designated COVID-19 officer

8.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 4

Hockey (outdoor)

England Hockey 1.     Full competitive match play can resume

2.     Competitive training can take place in groups of a maximum of 30

3.     In all settings before and after the session, and in any break, all participants should practice social distancing in line with Government guidance.

4.     Participants should self-assess for COVID symptoms

5.     Unnecessary touching should be avoided

6.     Sharing of equipment should be avoided

7.     Touching of equipment should be avoided (use stick to touch ball rather than hands)

8.     All clubs have must have a designated COVID-19 officer

9.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 5

Netball (indoor & outdoor)

England Netball 1.     Modified training now allowed

2.     Leagues and competition can resume from 26 September

3.     4ft spacing for the start of play

4.     4ft marking – the defending distance has been increased from 3ft to 4ft

5.     Removal of toss ups

6.     Regular breaks for sanitising equipment (e.g. ball)

7.     Groups of no more than 30

8.     In all settings before and after the session, and in any break, all participants should practice social distancing in line with Government guidance.

9.     All clubs must have a designated COVID-19 officer

10.   Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 6

Basketball (indoor & outdoor)

England Basketball 1.     Drills, skills and team-based training now allowed up to a maximum of 30 participants

2.     Coaches must wear face masks

3.     Practice in small groups, not mixing with other groups

4.     Contact training limited to 20-minute intervals with clear breaks to clean down equipment (e.g. ball)

5.     Shouting is not permitted during indoor play

6.     Unnecessary touching should be avoided

7.     In all settings before and after the session, and in any break, all participants should practice social distancing in line with Government guidance.

8.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 7

Walking Football (indoor & outdoor)

Football Association 1.     Outdoor only, at present

Activity 8

Fitness Classes

Gov.uk guidance 1.     Participants should be distanced a minimum of two metres away from each other at all times

2.     Fitness equipment should not be shared amongst participants

3.     Maximum class size of 30 (may be less dependent on facility used)

4.     Participants should not be positioned face-to-face

5.     All equipment should be sanitised before and after each session

6.     Outside providers of classes will not be allowed to borrow equipment

7.     Classes should take place in a well-ventilated space with plenty of room, ideally outside when possible

8.     The dance studio will not be used for fitness classes due to the size and lack of ventilation

9.     Outside providers are responsible for taking test and trace details

 

Activity 9

Taekwon-Do

British Taekwon-Do 1.     Socially distanced non-contact training allowed

2.     Practicing techniques at a two-metre distance

3.     Contact is prohibited

4.     Mats, pads and equipment must be disinfected

5.     Practice area for each participant marked out if necessary

6.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 10

Gymnastics

British Gymnastics 1.     Socially distanced training can resume

2.     Session sizes should be determined by the Capacity, Group Size and Ratios Guidance Document

3.     Sanitising of all equipment between each usage

4.     Gym should be well ventilated

5.     Beams should not be used as they are not suitable for cleaning with disinfectants

6.     Parents are not to wait inside the gym while sessions take place

7.     All clubs must have a designated COVID-19 officer

8.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 11

Hand Ball

England Handball 1.     Small group training allowed indoors without contact

2.     All contact and face-to-face training should be avoided

3.     No competitive match play

4.     All equipment should be cleaned prior to session. Balls should be cleaned at regular intervals during the session.

5.     Participants should leave immediately after the session.

6.     All clubs must have a designated COVID-19 officer

7.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 12

Rugby Union

Rugby Football Union 1.     Non-contact training permitted

2.     Maximum of 20 players

3.     All participants should undergo a self-assessment for COVID-19 symptoms before attending

4.     All activity should be outdoors

5.     Contact is not allowed and players should keep social distance at all time

6.     Total duration of sessions must not exceed 60 minutes for under 8s and 75 minutes for under 9s and above.

7.     Sessions should break every 15 minutes for the ball and other equipment to be cleaned

8.     In all settings before and after the session, and in any break, all participants should practice social distancing in line with Government guidance.

9.     Equipment should not be shared and the amount of people touching equipment should be limited

10.   All clubs must have a designated COVID-19 officer

11.   Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 13

Badminton

Badminton England 1.     Return to full-play permitted, singles and doubles.

2.     Players set in groups of six and are not to mix

3.     Players should not share equipment

4.     Players should not touch badminton net and posts

5.     All clubs must have a designated COVID-19 officer

Activity 14

Touch Rugby

Activity 15

Table Tennis

Table Tennis England 1.     Local competition can return from 1 September

2.     Equipment should not be shared

3.     Balls should be disinfected regularly

4.     Players should avoid touching the table

5.     Table areas should be a minimum of 4.5 metres by 9 metres

6.     A ‘hygiene’ officer should be appointed to ensure guidelines are being followed

7.     Play should be in ‘bubbles’ of six people

8.     After play, each player should wipe down their side of the table and there should be a 10-minute wait between each game

9.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Activity 16

Tennis

Lawn Tennis Association 1.     Singles and doubles play is allowed but social distancing must be adhered to as much as is reasonably possible.

2.     Coached sessions for children should be limited to 15 children

3.     Physical contact should be avoided

4.     Players should avoid touching the ball with their hands

5.     Hands should be washed before and after play

6.     Each club should ensure guidance is observed and control measures put into practice. This is a term of booking with Sport Wotton.

 

Other If any other activity not included in this list is booked to use a sports centre facility it will be added and a COVID-19 risk assessment undertaken. Guidelines of the specific sport or activity will be applied.

 

All guidelines listed above are subject to change. This list will be updated as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted or if more are introduced.
